In the field of variable (diffractive) optical elements for security applications, FCUL worked a long term R&D contract from the Portuguese Mint, and develops and/or implements holographic techniques, dot-matrix interferometric lithography, maskless interferometric lithography (patented) using state-of-the-art MOEMS, computation of diffractive elements and their implementation with laser direct writing, vectorial modelling of diffractive optics and high resolution coding of graphical information.

FCUL implemented for INCM and OPSEC (UK & USA) a new system that introduced a new family of High-Security Diffractive Optical Variable Image Devices, based on a patented technology developed in-house - the PARAGON technology.
